Chief/Head of Reinsurance

The Head of Reinsurance is the key role in building out reinsurance relationships and operations for the company. This role supports the mission of creating a modern, dynamic framework for providing faster, data-driven reinsurance capacity to cedents in insurtech and beyond. The individual in this role will help develop and implement the overall reinsurance strategy and manage all reinsurance programs across the company.

The company is a block-chain based reinsurance company created to add a new class of capital for MGAs and Insurtechs to access and expand capacity. Founded in 2021 by two successful fintech and insurtech executives with a track record of building successful companies and leveraging their backgrounds in technology, security, crypto, and insurance. The company has completed its seed stage capital round and is backed by three well-known firms.

Position Details



Responsibilities
  • Scale the organization prudently by building an internal and external team
  • Design workflow, processes, and reporting to manage dozens and then hundreds of cedents/treaties in as short a time as possible to prudently scale the organization
  • Work with reinsurance brokers on placement design, coverage and capacity, pricing, potential coverage enhancements and the negotiation of terms and conditions
  • Act as a primary point of contact with insurtechs, cedents, and reinsurance broking teams to respond to queries and concerns

Key Deliverables

  • Build an internal core team and a broader panel of independent actuaries to be able to assess cedent books/submissions efficiently
  • Manage reinsurance treaties and operations with cedents and ensure Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) compliance
  • Lead/Contribute to sector/cedent lead flow and business development process (dependent on background/seniority of the candidate)
  • Contribute to risk capital provider acquisition offering (risk/reward tranche selection)

 

Qualifications
  • 5 -10+ years of reinsurance experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Strong underwriting acumen including an understanding reinsurance structures, policy forms, and actuarial concepts
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and develop others
  • Additional industry-specific study and designations (CPCU, ARe) a plus
